Chicken (pepper) soup for the soul

I’ve been horribly sick the last few days. It started with a cold, but mutated into a sinus infection that literally bound me to bed for one or two days.

My husband has gallantly been providing for my needs, including lots of hugs and food, especially comfort foods.

I’d heard chicken soup is supposed to be good for invalids, and my husband has a penchant for spicy hot foods. So he produced chicken soup, but with a twist – lots and lots of pepper!

By “pepper” I don’t mean the languid, washed-out black granules that come with your table salt. I’m talking about the spices directly from the African country where he was born. These spices are somewhat similar to jalapeno peppers, except way stronger!

One or two bites, and my nose was running at 60 mph. It actually felt good, though.

I took a picture to mark this historic occasion. It is not for the faint of heart.

About multiculturalmarriage

I'm glad to be part of a multicultural marriage! I grew up in the U.S. but am married to an African husband. This makes life challenging, creative and cool - all at the same time!

  1. Tee hee – what a wonderful husband! That soup is a somewhat fearsome thing to behold. I can sense its power even through the picture!
